In this interview, Sarah Burnett, our Chief Tech. Evangelist, talks to Miroslaw (Mirek) Bartecki, a co-founder and CTO at KYP.ai, about key features of our software, and what developments are on the cards in 2022.
Key Feature of KYP.ai
Sarah: What are the key features of KYP.ai and why do they matter?
Mirek: Firstly, we can collect data continuously at scale to generate rapid visibility, because we are not bound by having to look at event logs in any specific enterprise system. We capture information in real time from desktops, and then analyse it along three dimensions; process, people and technology, to provide a holistic view of process flows, bottlenecks, and any other barriers to performance and efficiency. Without this holistic approach you can miss important indicators of problems.
Secondly, KYP.ai can be deployed to generate insights in a matter of days not months. One example is that of our client, the largest shipping company in the world, that implemented KYP.ai for discovery in its ticketing process. It got great insights after just five days of data collection by KYP.ai. The process graph showed that a new system was being used by only 10 per cent of staff. 90 per cent were still using the old legacy system. This allowed the organisation to look into what was hampering adoption of the new system and address the issue.

Thirdly, KYP.ai can work with older technologies like green screens or telnet communication. Working with a client we have proven that we can provide insights on mainframe usage and show what can be improved, and indicate the benefits or drawbacks of using such systems. For example, we discovered significant variances in speeds of processing through different user interfaces on a client’s systems. The old text terminals and keyboards were very fast but the new web-based frontend took three times as long.
Finally, a very important aspect is detailed accuracy; with KYP.ai all of the target processes and their variance are visible. We do not ignore anything, no views of the process nor any steps. Our customers get to see their process information graphically with all the touchpoints and variances shown. That is our spaghetti diagram with all of the steps, even if they are marginal or just one process repeated thousands of time.

The AI in KYP.ai
Sarah: Could you please tell me about the AI in KYP.ai?
Mirek: It facilitates the data analysis that we do within the software. It classifies the information that we capture, removes the noise and joins the dots to show complete process flows. It also blocks the capture of sensitive data and other information that is outside the scope of the project, for example data from specific applications or views. It is explainable AI, because we provide transparency, like the classifications used and the path to making decisions.

How KYP.ai handles privacy
Sarah: On the subject of sensitive data, could you tell me more about how KYP.ai handles privacy please?
Mirek: Yes, absolutely. We can only observe and analyse the productive work. We are able to mark personal data and treat it as outside the scope of the project. The end user is able to look at the data that is collected, the process behind it, and the outcome of the analysis. The decision-making process by our software is transparent. We have well documented techniques behind our pattern matching and data collection. Additionally, the user has options and can decide what data is collected from the PII data perspective.
Upcoming features in KYP.ai
Sarah: What new features can we look forward to in KYP.ai in the coming months?
Mirek: We are adding more features for PII and integration with more third party applications. There are going to be new AI algorithms for process matching, and adding more enterprise features, for example, federated identity management for multiple user domains and directories using cloud ID management. We are also investing in extending the data capture capabilities for remote desktops and thin clients.
We are expanding our partnerships, for example, with analytics tool providers and IA tool providers.
